Not sure if it's the same, but this reminds me of an issue I had some time ago.

HCL Notes/Domino 8.5 Forum (includes Notes Traveler)

The symptoms were the same. I just did not check whether changing the default browser option made any difference.

Anyway, it turned out that the Flash Player plug-in was the culprit. I resolved the issue by uninstalling & re-installing Flas Player.
